Why Do We Need Car Entertainment

Since the 60’s & 70’s we have had the need to be entertained whilst driving, obviously as time has gone by car entertainment systems have become much more complex and user friendly, but has it become more enjoyable and important?

In actual fact the first stereo or “audio device” that was installed into a car dates back to the 1930 by the Galvin Brothers, who started the trend. However it didn’t take off straight away as many other factors hindered the popularity which we won’t get into now. It was a considerable time later before cars was produced with an entertainment system included.

Car stereos were the first real type of entertainment, mainly consisting of a car radio with tuneable frequencies that would cycle through a range of AM broadcasting stations, they and later went on to include tape-deck that would play one way, then both ways. This was point that the car entertainment factor really took off.

Music manufactures realised how important car entertainment was at the time and produced a range of products that would allow their music to be played whilst driving as well as at home. Since then the car audio and entertainment industry has expanded and evolved to become one of the main features of a car.
Modern day cars are designed to allow optional add-ons such as sat navs, Bluetooth devices that allow you to communicate handsfree, High end headunits that are capable of playing DVDs on multiple screens, entertainment systems that have surround sound playing music and audio from all corners of the car, Live TV broadcasts from satellite stations and so much more.

But do we really need all of this? I Think Yes. The devices mentioned above are all designed because of one purpose which is because they make our life much easier and safer in some way. Whether it be to help us relax on a long and stressful drive or when stuck in traffic. Or to answer the phone safely whilst driving. There is a need to have them now more than ever, and with the ever growing market the possibilities of new and improved car audio products are endless.
